How we see children
Our carefully prepared environment is based on observations of the individual child’s needs and ability. This will foster good work habits and cooperation in both work and play. All children want to learn. Every child is unique and learns differently. Children must learn to treat each other kindly and understand the differences between one another.
Teachers watch before they teach. The room is arranged, then rearranged, around what they see each child reaching for. Lessons come in small groups or one to one. A teacher kneels to speak at eye level. Work habits and cooperation grow from that attention, in work and in play.
QLMS is a DHS licensed and Keystone Stars accredited center. Our teachers are degreed and certified by the American Montessori Society. We strive to provide a family-oriented experience for everybody. All children with CCIS subsidy are encouraged to enroll and we participate in the CACFP for free and reduced meals. QLMS is a year-round program consisting of ten months of Montessori instruction supplemented by a 2 month summer recreational program.
What you notice in practice
Teachers observe each child first, then set the room around what they see. A lesson may be given to one child or a small group, whichever fits the moment. Teachers sit low, at eye level, and let the child lead the pace. That is how a carefully prepared environment stays responsive to individual needs and ability, and how good work habits and cooperation take hold.
The room itself is part of the teaching. Shelves hold a few things at a time, arranged simply so a child can choose and then put away. Materials sit at the child's height. The pace of the day follows the children. There are long stretches for work, time to watch before joining in, and quiet moments when a child needs them.
How we work with families
We aim to provide an environment that has genuine concern and sensitivity towards children and their families. Parents hear from teachers at pickup and can ask questions whenever they arise. Our team of educators will work to deliver concrete experiences that help our little ones perfect their natural tools for learning.
Queen Lane Montessori School’s goal is to provide a stimulating environment where each child can discover, create, and become the best version of themselves. We encourage children to be their own person, to be honest about their feelings, and responsible for their behavior. A new child settles in at their own pace, with familiar faces nearby and their family close until they are ready.
